about

"Silent Night" (German: "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht") is a popular Christmas carol. The original lyrics of the song "Stille Nacht" were written in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria, by the priest Father Joseph Mohr, and the melody was composed by the Austrian headmaster Franz Xaver Gruber. In 1859, John Freeman Young (second Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Florida) published the English translation that is most frequently sung today.

lyrics

It is a silent night
You could say a holy night
It would appear that all is calm and all is bright
Around this teenage mother and her newborn child
See the infant so tender and mild

It is a silent night
You could say a holy night
There are shepherds quaking at the sight
And glories streaming from Heaven afar
You can almost hear the sky singing, “Alleluia”

Sleep
Sleep
Sleep in heavenly peace

It is a silent night
Some would say a holy night
Looking at a son of God who’s nothing but pure light
Radiant beams dancing off his face
And marking the dawn of redeeming grace

Sleep
Sleep
Sleep in heavenly peace

Sleep
Sleep
Sleep in heavenly peace
